Abstinence



Things that help me maintain my abstinence:
· Having a food sponsor and a food plan each day. Mostly that means calling in my food in the morning, texting at the end of the day or emailing it in.
· Counting my days of abstinence
· 3rd step prayer each morning, commit to abstinence
· Exercise - makes me feel good about my body and reminds me I need to take loving care of my body.
· Attending meetings
· No alcohol – the sugar in it triggers my physical compulsion for sugar
· Cooking & eating at home
· Having a steps sponsor
· Not eating standing up, eating off my own plate (ie taking food off trays, I can not trust myself to know when enough is enough if I do not see it all together on one plate)
· Call someone
· Exercise
· Remind myself – it is just food, it won’t bring me peace, happiness or fill that spiritual hole I have inside me
· Write – write out my feelings, write about what is going on
· Distract myself for 5 minutes, see how I feel after 5 minutes
